Out of 35 applications received from enthusiasts startups. And, with an intense evaluation of each application, selection panelists shortlisted 15 finalists for the live pitching round, which was hosted by YoungInnovations (one of the 16 hubs to organize local competition) in partnership with KCM Business Incubator Centre (KBIC) and True North Associates (TNA) at Kathmandu College of Management. Top 3 local winner from Nepal; HoneyGuide Apps, ICT for Agri P.Ltd. and Sparrow SMS were selected from the local competition. But, only two Startups are selected by Helsinki Slush team; HoneyGuide Apps and ICT for Agri Pvt. Ltd from Nepal as a local winner to represent at Slush Global Impact Accelerator Program 2016, in Helsinki, Finland. Both team will be heading to Helsinki, Finland to attend the bootcamp and slush from November 22–December 2, 2016. Let’s get to know about these startups in brief and their role in promoting Nepali Startup Ecosystem globally.
HoneyGuide Apps, founded by Mr. Abhishek Pande and Mr. Ashish Shrestha, is a travel and tech startup based in Kathmandu that is building paradigm shifting products for the travel industry. With the tourism industry going through a rough patch lately, release of HoneyGuide’s Trekking in Nepal app is the expression of the belief that better days are just around the corner. It is also an attempt to revive the ailing tourism industry by increasing visitor confidence in Nepal. Briefing the importance of GIA with BlogorTech, Mr. Ashish Shrestha, one of the founder of HoneyGuide Apps, said, “We will do our best to show to the world that in a small country with big mountains, a startup ecosystem is developing, and those who take notice or this early trend right now might be well positioned for a huge return in the days to come. Basically, our effort will be locating Nepal on to Global Map of Startup Ecosystem.” He admits that, HoneyGuide apps is in initial stage and lot more to learn from scalability to significant traction. “Getting the right exposure and platform to learn will be their major agenda. No matter if we didn’t success to get the investment. But, we will be applying for the 100 startup pitching competition. And, let’s see how it goes.” says Ashish.
ICT for Agri Pvt. Ltd:
Another startup who will be representing in Slush GIA program 2016, is ICT for Agri Pvt. Ltd, which was founded in Mid of 2014, is a Nepal’s leading agro-advisory service provider which fulfills day to day information need of farmers such as information on pest/diseases in crop and livestock, weather forecast, market price, agriculture input etc. based on the need and circumstance delivered through the use of information technology; Mobile Application and SMS system. Team members: Ashok Adhikari (Agro Advisory Expert), Narendra Pokhrel (Agro Advisory Expert), Jiteendra Pathak (Web Developer), Abhisek Khadka (Android Developer), Khop Narayan Malla (Service Director), Sanjay Kafle (Photographer) and Sibjan Chaulagain ( Managing Director).
Mr. Sibjan Chaulagain, talks with BlogorTech about importance of GIA to ICT for Agri Pvt. Ltd, “It is indeed a great pleasure to us to be selected in Slush GIA. It has been the largest entrepreneurial event in the whole Nordic region. We are representing from a country where startup culture is just growing to the event place where Entrepreneurship has been in focus for long decades. So, first thing would be to understand Entrepreneurship ecosystem abroad and bring impressions back. Second, being selected in bootcamp will allow sufficient time to present our business case and build network especially to impact entrepreneurs, impact investors and partners.”
Slush Global Impact Accelerator (GIA), which is a program created in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Tekes, World Bank, Sitra, Bayer, and Startup Sauna. The purpose is to create a leading global accelerator to support startups that are looking to solve some of the most pressing global challenges and contributing to the discussion on impact investing. GIA 2016 brings impactful entrepreneurs from emerging markets to Helsinki to accelerate their business, attract additional financing and make an even greater impact on their societies and beyond. The program includes online pre-event coaching and Helsinki boot camp program culminating in Slush.
